What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral fiber found in rock and soil.  Asbestos fibers are a flexible heat resistant material that have aided construction with its ability to bind other materials and fire-proofing qualities.

From construction materials to car parts asbestos is found in many places.  The use of asbestos was commonplace until the 70’s and industry standards changed.  We have attached some common types of asbestos to better aide you with where asbestos can be found.

Handling or being exposed to asbestos can cause certain types of lung cancer, Mesothelioma and other health issues. Removing asbestos should only be done by certified asbestos technicians. Do you know what products and fixtures could potentially contain asbestos? Common products that might have contained asbestos in the past, and conditions which may release fibers, include furnace ducts, resilient floor tiles, cement sheets, door gaskets, soundproofing material, patching compounds, artificial ashes, and more.
